Fierce, playful kitten!

July 27th, 2011 by thatgirl

Muffin and Biscuit got a couple of new toys for their recent birthday. I knew that little miss kittenface would probably claim them as her own in no time. And so she has! She’s quite fond of this pink, sparkly, feathery “birdy” and attacks it quite ferociously!

The other toy was a rolly ball that lights up and kind of propels itself on the floor. It became lost almost immediately. I’ve seen it once since the day it arrived and I suspect it’s under the couch or one of the chairs. Rolly balls don’t last long around here!

Meet Pumpkin. Hello, Pumpkin!

July 24th, 2011 by thatgirl

Pumpkin joined the family in September of 2005. She was found in a tree down the street from my grandma’s house, where I was still living at the time. The neighbor who found her knew what a sucker I am and brought her to me. :) She was pitiful and adorable and fluffy. She was a little sick and so she was a little gross. She had some parasites that resulted in her having a leaky butt. Ewwww. But we got her fixed up and she joined the household. All was fine until the next summer. She was (probably still is, though out of practice) quite the hunter and would not leave the birds alone at my grandma’s. So after a particularly successful week, she was evicted! I had moved by that time and so she came to live with me.

She still loves birds, but has to watch them through the windows. She makes these adorable chirping sounds at them. She loves attention and being spanked but will bite when she gets over stimulated. Then 2 seconds later she’s grabbing your hand with her paw to pet her some more. She’s playful but only on her terms and her schedule. She’s particularly fond of fluffy, fuzzy pompoms.

Nicknames include Pumpkin Pie, Fluffy, Fluffykins, Fluffypie, and Pie.

beating the heat (trying to anyway)

July 21st, 2011 by thatgirl

I was hanging out in the TV room, where we have AC. I had never seen that kind of unit before we got one. It’s kind of tall and sits on the floor, with a length of air tube that goes to the window. It does a very good job of cooling down the room. I’ve slept in there the last couple nights.

BartholoMEW is staying out in the sunroom and there’s a small AC wall unit out there (here – I’m hanging out with ‘Mew today!) that we’ve never used. I don’t even know why. And I had pretty much forgotten that it even existed. But I looked out here and poor BartholoMEW was just laying on the floor in front of the fan panting and I felt so bad for him! Then I remembered the AC and decided to see if it even works. It does! And now I’m hanging out in the sunroom as it slowly cools down a bit.

I put a couple ice cubes in the water dish in the house and I’m pretty sure the baby hissed at them. She’s so amusing. And so freaked out by unfamiliar things! It cracks me up thinking about it though. OMG what is that stuff!? *hiss* I think she got over it when she realized it wasn’t going to do anything to her. It has probably melted already anyway.

It’s not too bad out here already. It’s not as cool as it was in the TV room but not as hot as the rest of the house. I’m nearly comfortable! Plus I have iced coffee to drink and that always helps!

BartholoMEW still holds his foot weird

July 20th, 2011 by thatgirl

Multiple people have remarked when they saw him, that it looks like BartholoMEW’s foot is on backwards. It isn’t. He just stands on his… knuckles? Do cats have knuckles? Well, if they don’t, whatever the cat equivalent of that would be. I’m still working on this with him.

I took some photos of him looking handsome today. I think he looks handsome every day, I just don’t always take pictures of it. I also got one of the way he stands on his bad foot.

Over the coming days, I’ll introduce the rest of the family. They’re mentioned quite a bit but really ought to get their own posts/pictures too. After all, they were also all rescues! And! I’ll have adorable pictures of little miss kittenface being adorable! (shocking, I know!)

See? Isn’t that strange looking?

It’s so hot today!

July 18th, 2011 by thatgirl

I woke up all sweaty and feeling gross. I’m hot, BartholoMEW is hot, the other kitties are hot. The only one who doesn’t seem to mind the heat at all is little miss kittenface. She’s still running around the house just like normal.

And so, in an effort to not have to move around too much (and because videos of cats laying around doing nothing are boring!) I’m going to post some photos from a few days ago.

The photos of the baby are from the night she was playing with Mr. Baby Cat and the photos of BartholoMEW are from a few days ago.

Poop!

July 16th, 2011 by thatgirl

Ugh. I got up today and found that BartholoMEW had pooped. In the box. That’s good. But it was all over and I was sure he had walked through it. The last time he did that, we were fortunate that it was his good back foot. This time… not so lucky. It’s so hard to clean off that foot! Especially poop! Which sticks and doesn’t want to come off. I cleaned as gently as possible using over-moistened baby wipes. But he was still annoyed with me. I could tell. And I don’t want to hurt him. I don’t think I got him completely clean. I may try dabbing a bit more in a little while. Maybe with a wash cloth and a bowl of warm water.

BartholoMEW gets quite vocal for his breakfast

July 15th, 2011 by thatgirl

It’s cute. When I get up in the morning, BartholoMEW is waiting for me by the sun room door and meows until I get his breakfast to him.

His foot seems to be doing well. It’s furry, though not as furry as the rest of him. He still doesn’t walk on it quite right but I’m hoping that will get better. He continues to put on weight but is still so far below where he should be. He’s so very bony. It’s troubling to pet him, but he really likes it.

The kitten wants to come out into the sun room and will sit right in front of BartholoMEW as he’s meowing for his breakfast and his at him through the screen door. She’s amusing. And when I go out there to deliver the food, she will try her hardest to get out.

Last night I went to the store and bought food and litter. It more than wiped out the rest of the funds I had. Any donations would be much appreciated. Even a few dollars can buy cat food.

Adorable miss kitten face

Today I was working on getting some new photos processed and uploaded so I could post them here. Then my external hard drive decided it didn’t want to work any more. This is mighty unfortunate for me. Fortunately for *you* though, I did manage to get 4 photos uploaded before that happened.

I had most of the data backed up. I only lost a handful of things that I will need to re-process. This means more work for me, but is WAY better than losing unprocessed files. I’ll also be seeing if I can find any way of retrieving the data from the drive. Cross your fingers for me!

naughty kitten

July 12th, 2011 by thatgirl

So the last couple days, I’ve made sure to take the kitten downstairs to the litter boxes there. So even if she’s not managing to make it down there on her own (and I hope she is!) I know that at those times she’s going somewhere that I’m ok with! Usually I take her and set her in the box and she immediately uses it. So I guess I should be glad of that. It could have been somewhere else.

She’s an adorable, feisty little thing.

Bandage free!

July 10th, 2011 by thatgirl

So there are a couple new and exciting things today! BartholoMEW is heavier! He’s up a whole pound since the last time he went to see the kitty doctor. He’s now 8.3 lbs! Yay!

The other new exciting thing is foot related. He’s bandage free! It’s on a trial basis. If it doesn’t go well, if he messes with it, if it seems to be flopping around, if it seems to be bothering him… then he’ll go back and get rebandaged. But for now, it’s uncovered. His wounds seem to be almost healed. He just has a couple scabs now. And the bones are healing.

When he walks he still uses it like a peg leg some but also uses it like a normal foot some. I correct it for him if I’m right next to him. And most of the time he’s just laying around.

I’m pleased.

Here’s a video!
